Pale auro (Golden crown)
Fatu Feu'u 1989
Framed $800
Lithograph,560 x 760mm,510 x 702mm
Frame: 810 x 990mm
In 1984 Fatu Feu'u, then still working at textile and car companies showed his sketchbooks at Muka Studio wanting to try lithography. The beautiful and intriguing abstract images inspired by Samoan culture at the back of the books were standing out. The Muka people Frans and Magda advised Fatu to stick to the treasures of Pacific culture and invited him to the studio. There Fatu also found one of his heroes, Tony Fomison, also supporting his Pacific inspiration. Over the years Fatu's work, including a lot of Muka prints, inspired a host of young Pacific artists.
The "pale auro" print is typical for its mixture of representational elements such as the Manukau Heads, Rangitoto and the rainbow with abstract features borrowed from "siapo" and "pe'a tino", tapa cloth and body tattoo…
This is the only framed one of a very popular print by this outstanding artist we have.
