New Zealand artist Born in Tauranga 1955 Lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand The acts of looking, seeing, watching, of being looked at, of being seen and of being watched are at the core of Mark Braunias' works, from the development of the New Zealand national identity paintings through to his Goofy abstract works he critiques the way we see. Often Braunias sets up a riddle within his paintings, which he then proceeds to unravel throughout an exhibition by the inclusion of grid structures usually made up of a4 sheets of drawings through which ideas link and loop into the larger paintings.
